MEO
Government ministry directing sustainable economic development in Curaçao — supporting local business, granting economic permits, stimulating innovation, and attracting foreign investment.
About
The Ministry of Economic Development (MEO) is one of the nine ministries of the Government of Curaçao. It directs sustainable economic development for the island's community, stimulating and supporting the local business sector, granting economic permits, and maintaining international contacts to attract investors and create jobs.
The ministry comprises five units: Economic Inspection, the Policy Organization (which runs macroeconomic analyses with the Curalyse model), the Business Sector (price calculations, business support, and economic permits), the Economic Development & Innovation Sector, and the Foreign Economic Cooperation Sector.
Its Economic Development & Innovation Sector drives the knowledge economy, innovation, technology and digitalization, energy, and high-potential sectors such as tourism, international finance, ICT, logistics, and the creative industry. It also coordinates and subsidizes institutions including the Fair Trade Authority Curaçao, the Curaçao Tourist Board, the Curaçao Film Office, and the Curaçao Innovation & Technology Institute (CITI).
Mission
To give direction to sustainable economic development for the community of Curaçao, with the main goal of achieving a high quality of life for every inhabitant — by anticipating socio-economic and international developments, providing optimal service, and executing a profound strategy.
Role in the Innovation Hub
MEO brings public-sector leadership to the Curaçao Innovation Hub, aligning ecosystem activity with national economic policy. Through its Economic Development & Innovation Sector — responsible for the knowledge economy, innovation, technology and digitalization — MEO also subsidizes and coordinates key ecosystem institutions including the Curaçao Innovation & Technology Institute (CITI), a core partner of the Hub.
